My
mom and I took this picture after I saw a few photos of rings in the
center of books casting a heart shadow in the binding. I got the idea to
use an Irish Claddagh ring in the binding of my Qur'an. Click on the
picture to see it in better quality.
The
Claddagh (kla-dah) is a 17th century Irish symbol of love (the heart),
loyalty (the crown) and friendship (the hands). It was traditionally
given between lovers. The symbol originated in a small fishing village
called Claddagh that was located outside of Galway City.
My
first claddagh ring was brought to me from Ireland from my grandfather
when I was probably around 5 years old. Sadly, that ring has been long
lost. However, I have had many since then and since I am on a mission to
bring together Celtic heritage and Islam, I thought this would be a
perfect little picture :) I hope you all enjoy it.
