Beer and Fun in Dusseldorf, Germany

Modern Dusseldorf is known worldwide for its role in international business, fashion, and commerce. Events make this a special place for travelers. Many trade conventions, fun fairs, and other attractions bring millions of visitors here each year. Make sure you have Dusseldorf on your list when you’re in Germany.
The Largest Fair in Town
Größte Kirmes am Rhein, or the Largest Fair on the Rhine, is a huge event that attracts more than four million people every year. Surprisingly, this tradition is rooted in more than just a good time. It actually has quite the history. The first such fair was held in 1435. With an array of vendors, rides, concessions, and other amusements, this fair is the best way to have a ball in Germany.

Another exciting fair-like atmosphere occurs every year during Carnival. Carnival starts on the 11th of every November at 11:11 a.m. Enjoy the chaos and delights of the huge parade held each Rosenmontag, or Rose Monday. Costumes, souvenirs, and partying are also part of the equation.
Slam Back Cold Ones
Taste Altbier at a Brewpub in Dusseldorf. This beer, also known as old-style beer, is brewed on site at four pubs in the city. A pale, hoppy ale, Altbier gives a clean taste and a nice buzz. To drink this Dusseldorf favorite, head to Uerige, Schlussel, Fuchschen, or Shumacher.
Nightlife is a major part of the Dusseldorf scene, so plan some time in the hip spots of the city. The Aldstadt is the place to go for amazing adventures. Visit Tor 3 for the hottest dance hits. If you’re looking for a more laid-back experience, head to Bei Tino, where live music fills the air. McLaughlin’s Irish Pub boasts some gastromic delights such as stew in addition to the Guinness and Killian’s Red.
Take a Unique Look at the City
Why not see the odd side of Dusseldorf while in town? One unusual attraction, the Conzen Sammlung, houses a vast, if not odd, collection. Located in a beautiful historic building, this site holds more than 1200 unique picture frames.
Traipse absurdly along the floor of the Rheinpromenade. The promenade follows the scenic river as it winds through the city. You should note that this is not your average walk. The promenade features a wavy walkway that will trick you into thinking you’re in a funhouse.
Hotels in Dusseldorf
When you have finished your scenic excursions through Dusseldorf, you’ll need a place to sleep. When you have limited funds, reserve a room at the Mirage Hotel. Here, you can enjoy cozy rooms, a 24-hour reception desk, and free internet for only $70 a night. Have more wiggle room in your wallet? Stay at the Relexa Hotel Ratingen City for about $113 a night. The Relexa is a good option for businesspeople as it is situated in the financial district. When you desire a more pampered existence, lodge in a room at the Swissotel for $154 a night. In this hotel, you’ll find an indoor swimming pool, sauna, and bar.
